AI TOOLS
Short answer
In CleanUai’s channel 01, the AI tools group shows the caches Claude, Cursor and VS Code rebuild and the git worktrees that no longer hold anything. Conversations, settings, memory and downloaded models never go in. A worktree is only offered when it’s clean, already on the default branch, with nothing running inside and idle for more than 24 hours.
The caches
- Claude:
CacheandCode Cache. - Cursor:
CachedData. - VS Code:
CachedData,CachedExtensionVSIXsandCache.
They live in Application Support, and the app rebuilds what it needs. If the owner app is open, its cache comes unchecked.
The worktrees
Coding tools make a git worktree per task, and those stay on disk after the work is done. CleanUai only offers one that’s linked to a repository, unlocked, with no changes, already on the default branch, with no process inside and idle for more than 24 hours.
The rest show as kept, with the reason: uncommitted changes, not merged, locked, in use, used recently, has submodules or could not verify.
A worktree doesn’t go to the Trash: it leaves through git itself, with git worktree remove and no --force, and the confirm screen tells you first. The branch stays in the repository.
What never goes in
- The tools’ conversations, settings and memory.
- Downloaded models: the Hugging Face folder stays out of the
~/.cachecleanup.
Step by step
- Open channel 01 (
⌘1) and start a scan. - Open the AI tools group and see each cache and worktree with its size.
- Check the kept ones, if you want to know why one stayed.
- Press Clean.
Questions
Will cleaning lose my conversations?
No. Only the caches the app rebuilds go in. Conversations, settings and memory never do.
Can I lose code by removing a worktree?
A worktree is only offered if it has no changes and is already on the default branch. Even so, it tells you when there are files git ignores, like a local .env, because those leave with it.
Do I need git installed?
To remove worktrees, yes: Command Line Tools must be installed. Without them nothing is removed, and CleanUai tells you.
