SMART SCAN

Short answer

The smart scan is CleanUai’s channel 00 (Home). It puts system junk, leftovers of deleted apps and free disk space on one screen and shows how much you can free up. On a MacBook Pro with a 295 GB home folder it took about 2 seconds and found 21.6 GB. Scanning only reads: nothing moves until you press Clean.

What it checks

System junk (channel 01): app caches, logs, Xcode and developer tool leftovers, incomplete downloads.
Leftovers (channel 05): files in Library from apps that are no longer on the Mac.
The disk: how much of Macintosh HD is used and free, on an LED bar.

Large files and the disk map are left out on purpose: they need your decision, file by file, and have their own channels (03 and 02).

Why it’s fast

CleanUai is native SwiftUI and reads only the places where junk usually lives, in parallel, without indexing the whole disk. That’s why the smart scan takes seconds, while Space Lens, which measures everything, takes longer.

Measured on October 28–29, 2026 on a 12-core MacBook Pro with 24 GB of memory and an SSD, with 2.3 million items in the home folder. On your Mac, times vary with the disk and how many files you have.

What happens when you press Clean

Checked items move to the macOS Trash, just like in the Finder. You only get the space back when you empty the Trash, on channel 06. Before cleaning, you can open each category and uncheck anything.

Step by step

Open CleanUai. It starts on channel 00 (or press ⌘0).
Wait for the scan to finish: the big number shows how much you can free up.
Open the categories to check what was found, and uncheck anything you want to keep.
Press Clean. Everything goes to the Trash, where you can drag it back out.

Questions

Does the smart scan delete anything on its own?

No. Scanning only reads and measures. Nothing moves until you press Clean, and even then it goes to the Trash.

How long does the scan take?

About 2 seconds on a MacBook Pro with a 295 GB home folder. Macs with slower disks or many more files take longer.

Do I have to pay to scan?

No. Scanning is free forever, even after the 7-day trial. The license is for cleaning, uninstalling and updating apps.
