FULL DISK ACCESS
Short answer
CleanUai asks for Full Disk Access because without it macOS hides caches, app leftovers and much of Library, so the scan finds less. The access is not required: the app works without it. It’s used to read and measure; nothing moves until you press Clean, and you can turn it off anytime.
How to grant it
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access. CleanUai opens that pane for you the first time.
- Turn on the switch next to CleanUai. macOS may ask for your password.
- Go back to CleanUai. It notices on its own that access was granted.
What changes without it
The app opens and scans normally, but macOS won’t let it see some Library folders, like Containers and part of Caches. The result: less junk and fewer app leftovers found.
How to revoke it
Turn off CleanUai’s switch in the same pane, System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access.
Questions
Is granting Full Disk Access safe?
It’s a macOS permission you grant and revoke whenever you like. CleanUai uses it to read and measure, runs with no account and no telemetry, and the guard still applies.
Does CleanUai work without it?
Yes. It just finds less, because macOS hides part of Library.
