Short answer

To uninstall a Mac app without leftovers, remove the app together with the files it created in Library: preferences, caches, support files, containers and agents. CleanUai’s channel 04 shows each app with its own size and the size of those leftovers, and moves it all to the Trash in one go.

What stays behind when you drag an app to the Trash

The app itself is only part of it. It usually leaves, in your Library:

Preferences: its settings (.plist).
Caches and Logs.
Application Support: databases, downloads, plug-ins.
Containers and Group Containers: the data of sandboxed apps.
Saved Application State, HTTPStorages, WebKit and Cookies.
LaunchAgents: what makes the app open with your Mac.

Apps that install things for every user also leave files in /Library (like LaunchDaemons and PrivilegedHelperTools). To remove those, macOS asks for an administrator password.

How CleanUai finds an app’s leftovers

By the app’s identifier (its bundle id, like com.spotify.client) and, in folders where apps use their name, by name. It takes care not to mix up similar apps: files of a longer-named app from the same vendor stay with that app.

Group Containers are shared between a vendor’s apps. If you still use another app from them, check before you tick it.

Step by step

Open channel 04 (⌘4). The list shows your installed apps and each one’s size.
Pick an app to see its leftovers, folder by folder.
Check what will go and press Uninstall.
The app and its leftovers go to the Trash. If the app is open, quit it first.

Questions

Isn’t dragging the app to the Trash enough?

It removes the app but leaves the leftovers in Library. For big apps, like video editors or Spotify, leftovers can pass 1 GB.

What if I already deleted the app the old way?

Channel 05, Leftovers, finds what stayed behind from apps that are no longer on the Mac.

Does CleanUai uninstall Apple’s apps?

No. System apps live in folders the guard protects.
